As you descend from the highlands the temperature increases dramatically, and you realize that you are truly in the tropics, after all. In the lowlands light clothing is a must. Wearing canvas or leather walking shoes is advisable and practical. Wearing a hat is a wise precaution against the sun, which can be intense even when the weather is not hot, and sunglasses are a desirable addition. T-shirts, even tank tops, and knee-length walking shorts are acceptable anywhere outside in the streets of Addis Ababa. The hot zone consists of areas where the elevation is lower than 1,500 meters. This zone encompasses the Danakil Depression, the eastern Ogaden, the deep tropical valleys of the Blue Nile and Tekeze rivers, and the peripheral areas along the Sudanese and Kenyan borders. Humidity is very high in the tropical valleys and along the seacoast. Tags: Ethiopia Nature Climate Hot Zon |
