Poverty is pervasive in Ethiopia, and nearly half of the country's people live below the poverty line. In four regions, that is, Tigray, Amhara, Afar, and the Southern Region, more than 50% of the people live in poverty. The state of the country?s health and educational services also are poor, even compared with the poorest African countries. The infant and child mortality rate has decreased in the past few years though it still remains higher than what has been envisioned.
