Chat has recently become important in the export trade and now it accounts for about 15% of the export, coming in second after coffee. The destinations of the Ethiopian exports are few countries: Germany, Italy, United States, France, United Kingdom, Japan, and Saudi Arabia. Ethiopian imports took about 30% of the GDP in 2000/01. Capital goods, fuel, semi-finished goods and perishable consumer goods accounted for 80% of Ethiopian imports.
