The export is dominated by few commodities, such as coffee, chat (mild stimulant), hides, and skins. Chat has recently become important in the export trade and now it accounts for about 15% of the export, coming in second after coffee. The destinations of the Ethiopian exports are few countries: Germany, Italy, United States, France, United Kingdom, Japan, and Saudi Arabia. Ethiopian imports took about 30% of the GDP in 2000/01. Capital goods, fuel, semi-finished goods and perishable consumer goods accounted for 80% of Ethiopian imports. |
