Costumes are mainly jalabiya, light, loose, usually white dresses, in some areas blouses and skirts accompanied by shawls covering the shoulders and heads The Muslim religious costumes seem to be not particularly different from those worn on other days. They certainly are not as elaborate (perhaps a matter of simplicity) as those of the Christians. In the main, the Muslims wear jalabiya, light, loose, usually white dresses reaching in length all the way down to the ankles. Sometimes the clothes are ornamented with intricate designs woven in colorful threads. Of particular interest with respect to Muslim costumes are those of Harari women, consisting of blouses and skirts accompanied by shawls covering the shoulders and heads. Another variation is dresses worn over pants, tapering towards the ankles, all of them carefully embroidered with multicolored thread and glittering, circular beads.
