The third largest city in Ethiopia, Gondar is about 748 kilometers north of Addis Ababa and served as the Ethiopian capital from the reign of Fasiladas (1632-1665) until the reign of Emperor Tewodros II (1855-1868) who moved his capital, first to Debre Tabor and, then, to Maqdalla, spelling the decline of the town as the permanent capital that it was envisioned to be.

Next to Addis Ababa, perhaps, Dire Dawa is the most cosmopolitan city in Ethiopia and a melting pot of both traditional and contemporary cultures, founded in 1902, when the construction of the only railway the country boasts started.

If not for the fishes, birds, the pleasant climate, the accessible water of lake awassa, what would the city Awassa be. Well, that was indeed not all, salt it all with the Sidama culture and you have got yourself one of the main Ethiopian city to love.

Arba Minch and it's surrounding is where the nature shows all it's glory, where you will find two of the countrys greatest rift valley lakes situated close to each other and shaping the neck of land between the two lakes, known locally by the name of the "Bridge of Heaven" or "God's Bridge.", which just about describes the breathtaking scenery of the untouched nature.

Addis Ababa city (lit. meaning new flower) has as many as 80 nationalities speaking 80 languages, and Christian and Muslim communities. Addis Abeba is located about 2,500m above sea level and has a population between 4 and 5 million which makes it by far the nation's largest city.

Addis Ababa was founded by Emperor Menelik II towards the end of the 1880s, his eventual permanent capital city, however, the first such capital after the decline of Gondar in the latter half of the 19th century, he had established temporary capitals at six different locations, the last of which was Intoto. Addis Ababa is located at the hill foot of Intoto.
